Kate & Euan’s Big Wedding Weekend- 17th-22nd June 2015. Bagpipes, Gods & Mead

Kate & Euan’s Big Middle Coombe Farm Weekend- June 17th-22nd June 2015

On Wednesday 17th June 2015 Kate and Euan arrived at Middle Coombe Farm in Devon buzzing & in love. Their big weekend was to start that Saturday but they wanted to give themselves an evening to be together quietly, to walk in the woodlands, relax, get in our big beautiful outdoor pool & hot tub and have a good night’s sleep before all the excitement & joyous emotions their happy union would evoke from friends & families. The sun shone, the birds sang & all was peaceful at Middle Coombe Farm.

Thursday 18th June: Setting up for their Saturday wedding was the order of the day with food being a very important affair. Thursday included a relaxed venue tour and a dress rehearsal with the minister.

Kate & Euan had their legal ceremony at Tiverton Registry Office on Friday 19th June at 11am and looked stunning as they set off in their black mini cooper covered in lines of white roses. This little car became the talk of the local villages and made us all wish we’d had such creative friends decorate our wedding cars! There was a little bit of navigation round a hay trailer on the way through but that’s Devon for you. After the ceremony they had a special lunch in Tiverton and came back to finish setting up. The friends who were helping them arrived and everything took shape giving Euan & Kate, their helpers & family, the evening to relax….doing a Drumming workshop run by their friend, Paul Vermette.
Sat in the round in the stone circle with the sun on their backs & the woodlands behind them, the evening was beautiful.

Their best man, Chris Sergeant, not only acted as best man but organised the catering for the entire weekend. His pub, The Green Man in Thriplow, Cambridgeshire is well known for its excellent food. The food he created was bountiful and utterly delicious…never were wedding guests so well fed.

By 6pm all their friends and family had arrived and were invited to the evening’s festivities. Everything took place in the beautiful back courtyard of the grade II* listed farmhouse in the open air with the huge inglenook fireplace taking centre stage that evening. Everyone was tucked up in bed by 10.30pm getting a good night’s sleep before the big day ahead.

Saturday morning was dry and sunny in all the right places. The bride and groom got ready separately and their photographer was on site to capture it all.

The bride & groom wanted to include all their family members who couldn’t join them on their special day so they brought a plaster fireplace from home, placed it by the barn & put photographs of their loved ones on the mantlepiece just like at home.

Everyone met up at 11.30am prompt and were escorted through the woods to the oak tree ceremony site for the official hand fasting ceremony. Euan & Kate took their time & enjoyed the rare peace of the woodlands. Middle Coombe Farm & its woodlands are very special.

After a wonderful Humanist hand-fasting ceremony held at the heart of Middle Coombe Farm woodlands at our oak tree ceremony site, the guests all walked back for a glass of chilled prosecco & yummy canapés in the rustic bar & marquee accompanied by Finlay McCleod on the bagpipes. The music drifted out & across the valley and up over the Devon hills.

Check out the way Euan & Kate decorated our marquee. They hired in simple chair covers and friends made them a bottle of mead for each table (how good is that!).

Euan & Kate had involved many special activities for their guests during their weekend. There was even a Beyond Bushcraft workshop run by Zoe Atterbury & a colleague for anyone who wanted to participate on Saturday afternoon. In the end the consensus was to make dreamcatchers in the campers marquee and then give them to the bride and groom for their new home.

Afterwards they all ate to their hearts content in the splendidly decorated marquee, did their speeches and headed to the thatched cider barn for 7pm were the dancing began. The band were amazing. The Black Friday Band- a Cornish folk band and brilliant fun. Great music & musicians..just what you need to get your guests up and enjoying themselves to the max.

The evening continued with more food at 9pm (for any guest still hungry) and with more dancing right up until midnight when everyone went down to the stone circle to sit & congregate round the open fire to laugh, talk, drink and be forever merry.

After a gentle start on Sunday & bacon & sausage gaps done on the B.B.Q. in the back courtyard, Euan, Kate & the guests staying over at Middle Coombe Farm walked back into the woodlands to enjoy the peace and the nature around them. A wonderful way to spend the morning after your wedding. This was followed by an afternoon in the hot tub and outdoor swimming pool to relax completely.

One legal ceremony, one woodland hand-fasting ceremony & one quiet Sunday morning spent at the oak tree ceremony site; every inch of Middle Coombe Farm’s venue was explored & used.

Congratulations Mr and Mrs Euan Towart!
