‘Some wedding venues are truly out of this world’ writes Becky Joiner of My Fabulous Life Photography in her recent blog about working with a wedding couple here last year….’they are full of honest character, amazingly helpful owners and the most beautiful surroundings. Very few locations can combine all these elements, but Middle Coombe Farm is one of them’.

Becky continues.. ‘Leaving the towns and cities behind, as you drive down the little country lane approaching this organic working farm, I found that any stress I had just falls away. The pace of life slows down, the rolling hills are like a visual massage. You have to slow down. As I open my car door you are swamped by clear fresh air, but wait until you see the view, wow the view, now that’s breath taking.’

A beautiful farm with woodland in Mid Devon. Unique and desperately romantic wedding venue that sits in its own breathtaking valley, hidden deep in the Devon countryside. Middle Coombe has 400 acres of sustainable woodland and organically certified farmland means you have this stunning venue all to yourself for the whole weekend. Red deer, birds, badgers, rolling hills, beautiful farmhouse and cider barn and its own ancient oak ceremony tree. What’s not to like?

This farm in the heart of Devon was made for country garden style weddings in the woods. There are 200 acres of woodland on site, as well as a hot tub, a swimming pool and a BBQ courtyard. You can celebrate your marriage in the glade by the oak tree, which is a ten minute walk – some couples choose to set up a treasure hunt along the way!

Couples who marry at Middle Coombe Farm use the whole venue, the cider barn venue for their legal ceremony; then walk with their guests in a procession into the woodlands to the oak tree site with woodland seating where they often choose to have their speeches or a humanist ceremony. They may pop a few bottles of champagne afterwards (there’s nothing like the sound of popping corks in the woodlands), then back to the rustic bar for drinks and socialising. The wedding breakfast can take place in a marquee overlooking the woodlands.

A Bohemian Woodland Hand Fasting Wedding @Middle Coombe Farm

Genna and Ollie married back in the summer of 2013 on a glorious day in the middle of the woods.

Their whole wedding ethos was about celebrating the nature surrounding them and of course their love. Luckily they found Middle Coombe Farm in Devon where they could hold their hand fasting ceremony under the trees.

Genna wore a vintage 1920s wedding dress with flowers in her hair and Ollie donned a vintage tweed jacked teamed with eclectic pieces. There were wild fllowers, camping, wooden wedding rings and home made details. Amazing.

Situated in the heart of Devon, exclusive C16th Middle Coombe Farm & it’s 400 acres of farm & private woodland is fantastically situated for guests to enjoy this fabulous, historic area. This is still a family home and the love and constant sympathetic restoration of the buildings & grounds mean this venue becomes more beautiful each year. Leave the car parked up for the weekend and enjoy the tranquility of your very own country house experience with your family & friends or explore the surrounding areas. Whether you love walking, riding, fishing, cycling, art, history, simply watching birds & nature in their element or just general exploring, this location is fantastic.

Where do the season’s go? Have we really spun towards half-term with such speed this year?

The countryside and Middle Coombe Farm are looking particularly beautiful this October. It doesn’t matter what age you are…when the leaves start falling and the ground is covered in a light carpet of crisp, golden and orange leaves…I bet you skip a bit too…when no one’s looking.

I walk through our woods from my little cottage to work most days and love the fact that the landscapes and woods, the colours and the light change hour by hour in these parts. A particularly winning combination at Middle Coombe Farm for our guests as they can return from walking in our woodlands to gorgeous, historic, 4 star accommodation with a large open fire (in the drawing room & a huge working fireplace in the attached back courtyard) & wood burner & underfloor heating in the adjacent Allensdown Barn. All is warmed gently by our biomass boiler, fuelled with delicious smelling wood from our own 220 acres of sustainably run woodland.

Pack the children, friends, parents, grandparents & family dog into your car & come for a 3 night (or more) ‘off piste’ country house & country experience at the ultimate family home with it’s very own woodlands. We are a rare find.
