Grounds & Facilities

Stroll around or loll about on the grass, listen to passing insects buzzing around the many flowers or have a picnic on one of the lawns. Perhaps a day exploring the criss cross of footpaths leading from the farm or taking advantage of the numerous cycle routes that pass the farm.  In summer you can swim in our solar heated swimming pool or lounge all year round in our out door hot tub!

Whether you fancy a quiet weekend break in Devon, propped on a comfy sofa reading a book from the well stocked shelves; enjoying a stout walk in the extensive acres of Devon woodland; playing the children’s and grown-ups games; or ride your bike to a local pub, Middle Coombe Farm has something for you. We have extensive grounds with a large diversity of natural as well as cultivated features. We introduce new facilities and project each year and have always a new talking point for visitors every season!

Swimming Pool

From May-September the swimming pool is open, heated by a large solar system which also heats the hot water and assists the heating the water in the farmhouse. Luxurious wide steps lead into the clear, warm water and sunbeams bounce off the bottom and sides of the pool. The wonderful large eco hot tub (seats 8) is situated right next to the pool and is open all year round. Both are set inside private hedged  gardens with a changing house set at the back. Two outdoor gas showers are set next to the hot tub and pool.

This sunken garden with large swimming pool provides a wonderful retreat on a hot summer’s day and in Autumn there is nothing like running from the back door of the house and plunging straight into the wonderful heat and bubbles of the hot tub.

Our pool open May to September depending on weather conditions. The Hot tub is open all year round.

Cider Barn

The cider barn is an extra indoor space that can be turned into a games room, party space or more. The beautiful slate floor in the barn which is lovely and cool in the hot summer months and warm with underfloor heating in the coldest months. A great place to just hang out if you are a teenager and get into the spirit of the half sized pool table competitions, tennis table tournaments, and table soccer games. We have seen families involved in major league competitions for the entire week with a prize giving night at the end.

The younger ones might like to take over the other end of the barn as a performing arts studio for putting on a show for their elders they use the dressing up boxes from the house for their costumes. Chairs similar to a theatre are set up and the spotlights go on…….

The cider barn is also licensed for weddings.

Outdoor Play Area

We have a Trapeze, Willow Dome and Trampoline as well as forest trails with swings. Please be aware that their use is at your own risk – we are not responsible for any injuries which may happen! Children must be supervised at all times.

Courtyard

Fantastic for alfresco dinning. Perfect to share your morning breakfast and evening bbq's at the large wooden tables & chairs. Great space for late night star gazing while huddled around the large glowing open fire while enjoying your local brew and toasting mashmallows!!

Originally there was another house behind the main farmhouse – a ‘bothy’ or servants’ quarters. That’s long gone now but what remains is a beautiful cobbled courtyard with massive old functioning stone chimney, bread oven, fig and grape bushes, magnolias, camelias.

Gardens & Grounds

With over hundreds of acres between farm and woods to explore you are never far from adventure. Whether you fancy a stroll around the gardens enjoying the flora, reading a book in the sheltered front garden or a long walk exploring the footpaths where you may be fortunate to see a deer at dust or dawn  there is always plenty to do without leaving the farm.
