Bampton Charter Fair. Feather in the pony’s cap for Devon County. Amazing family day out…

Bampton Fair existed even before King Henry III granted it a Royal Charter in 1258 and it is always held on the last Thursday of October. It is one of the oldest surviving Charter Fairs in the country.

Middle Coombe Farm, our 400 acre farm & woodland venue, is offering 3 night mini-breaks for a small group of 4-8 guests or for one larger family group of between 12-16 guests from Thursday afternoon 29th October through to Sunday midday. The perfect Autumnal country house experience with 200 acres of private woodland to walk & explore. Middle Coombe Farm even has it’s own large hot tub (open all year long) to relax and bubble all those everyday stresses away.

Bampton, joyously, is just 10minutes drive from Middle Coombe Farm.

Derek Jarman & Middle Coombe Farm Devon

Derek Jarman & Middle Coombe Farm Devon

There is a singular connection between Middle Coombe Farm and the acclaimed artist, Derek Jarman. Michael Derek Elworthy Jarman.

In his book The Last Of England, Jarman writes about Coombe:

“My great-grandparents had done that. Left their farm in Middle Coombe, Uplowman, Devon, to go to New Zealand. I have an extraordinary picture of them taken in the 1850’s. I decided on The Last Of England.”

This connection started to reveal itself when a Mr David Jarman, who knew he was related to Derek Jarman, came to see us 2 years ago. He was visiting from his home in New Zealand and had been researching his family history. He discovered they originally came from Middle Coombe, Devon and wanted to see his ancestral home. Fascinated, he turned up and knocked on our door.

Organising Your Dream Wedding at Middle Coombe Farm

Organising Your Dream Wedding at Middle Coombe Farm

I was very fortunate to get married here in September 2005 before Middle Coombe Farm was officially a venue. Tim and Angela Malyon were acquaintances but not yet firm friends and when we very cheekily asked if we might have a hundred or so people to the event at their family home, they said ‘yes’. The kindness and excitement extended towards my future husband and myself was unparalleled and a few years later, still smitten with the place, I joined the team and have become part of fabric of Middle Coombe Farm.

This passion for sharing their incredible home and their beliefs is infectious and completely genuine. Middle Coombe Farm has been hosting weddings for over seven years now. We are fortunate to be surrounded by 400 acres of sustainably farm and woodland incorporating a stunning thatched cider barn and a woodlands ceremonial site. This is a venue that facilitates your wedding. We are chosen by couples seeking to create something really unique and different for their union.
